Protection and Preservation

African environmental and cultural heritage is at constant risk of destruction. This is caused not only by activities of local people but to a large extent also by people from abroad with either a touristic or a commercial interest. These endanger fundamental resources and also some of the most important elements of people´s cultural identity. Therefore the preservation of environment and culture inevitably have to go hand in hand. Three eminent men have expressed their concern about the heritage of the Sahara: Ralph Bagnold, Theodor Monod and Hans Rhotert have all excellent reputation for their research in the desert. You are invited to download their appeal for the protection of the desert here and to pass on this information to friends, colleagues and travellers to the Sahara.
